PLEASE NOTE
:
"Early model" R4 compressors users-
Read below:
This 14mm DOUBLE LIP seal kit
can
be used "in place" of the "early model" R4 that had a 2 piece type carbon seal. If using a newer style GM single lip OR a newer style GM Double lip seal in an "EARLY Model R4" with a 2 piece seal, this seal would then replace the "ceramic seat" or "metal seat". This would upgrade the old style original carbon seal to the new style teflon lip seal or in this case new style DOUBLE LIP seal as used in todays a/c compressors.
**The old style "2 piece carbon" shaft seals are more leak prone and they have a higher leakage rate as compared to the newer improved design Teflon single and double lip seals (rubber and Teflon lip).
The A6 compressor and the 2 piece "early model" R4 compressors ceramic seat is the same size and dimensions of the 14mm single lip seal
and
the 14mm double lip seal.
CLUTCH AIR GAP SPEC:
R4 Clutch Hub Air Gap (free space between clutch hub & pulley) .020" to .030" of an inch

Shaft Seal Install Tip:
The
RUBBER side
of the 14mm
DOUBLE LIP
shaft seal installs and goes INSIDE the compressor,
rubber side does NOT face outward
.
It is best to
"pre-stretch"
and
"precondition"
the shaft seal
BEFORE
installation. To pre-stretch and precondition the seal you MUST lube BOTH the seal and the tool with AC Oil. Then you push the seal BACKWARDS over the tool. To do this you will be doing this in the opposite direction than how the seal will be installed in the compressor.
A shaft seal Protector is
REQUIRED
for GM compressor shaft seal installation. The tool protects, expands, and stretches the
Teflon
(Plastic)
Lip seal to install the seal. Without the tool you
WILL
damage to the new shaft seal if you nick, cut, or improperly install the new seal.
The Shaft seal protector is
REQUIRED
if you are to install a seal without damaging the new seal.
Without the tool
how will you expand the Teflon Lip seal
to install it?
Teflon seals are not like other rubber seals. Teflon seal are actually manufactured with a
smaller inside diameter
than the
actual compressor shaft
. That is why you
MUST
use this tool to properly install the new seal.
PLEASE NOTE:
